Established in 2017 in commemoration of the 90th anniversary of Kawai Music Instruments Mfg. Co., Ltd., the aim of the Shigeru Kawai International Piano Competition is to contribute to the development of musical culture and promoting international exchange by nurturing the next generation of talented pianists from around the world.
The competition is named after the highly acclaimed Shigeru Kawai pianos, the premiere piano of Japan, and are frequently selected by pianists in prestigious competitions worldwide, including the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition where Turkish pianist Can Cakmur was awarded 1st prize, following a series of performances playing the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano.
