If you ask pianist David Nevue (pronounced NEV-Yoo) about his musical background he might surprise you. He comes not from a background of polished piano music, but grew up a typical 1980’s teenager strongly under the influences of such progressive rock artists as Rush, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Supertramp, Kate Bush and Kansas.
It wasn’t until Nevue’s college roommate introduced him to the piano music of George Winston that he began to take an interest in playing “just piano.” Fascinated by Winston’s impressionistic style, Nevue began to explore writing for solo piano. By 1991, he had a dozen original compositions ready to record and at the age of 25, Nevue recorded his first album, “The Tower,” at the home studio of Billy Oskay (of Nightnoise fame).
In the years since, Nevue has released sixteen albums of his original piano works and arrangements, including two solo piano “Album of the Year” winners; “Overcome” and “Winding Down.” His 2019 release, “In the Soft Light of Grace,” went to #1 on both the Amazon.com and iTunes music sales charts for his genre and entered the top 5 on Billboard’s album charts. As of 2020, Nevue’s music has surpassed 1.4 billion spins on Pandora Radio, a remarkable feat for an independent artist.
Beyond his work as a composer and recording artist, Nevue is a published author, producer and entrepreneur. In August 2003, he founded “Whisperings: Solo Piano Radio,” the very first Internet radio broadcast to feature solo piano music exclusively. In July 2006, The Wall Street Journal included Nevue on their “New Media Power List” of producers “being catapulted into a position of enormous influence.” Since the mid-2000’s, Nevue has booked and managed his own concert tours and career while producing dozens of multi-artist concert events for Whisperings Radio. He has been featured and interviewed for Rolling Stone Magazine and numerous other blogs, podcasts and publications.
Today, David continues to write and record new material and stays very busy performing concerts and managing Whisperings Radio. David’s music can be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music, Pandora Radio, YouTube, SoloPianoRadio.com and virtually anywhere you enjoy listening to music.
