Two new digital piano models, Kawai CN201 and CN301 Digital Pianos, from Kawai America, made their debut at the NAMM show in Anaheim, CA in early June of this year, broadening the range of the company’s award-winning mid-level series.
Replacing the extremely popular CN29 and CN39 models respectively, the new CN201 and CN301 feature a powerful list of upgrades including:
- A quieter keyboard action
- Full connectivity to Kawai’s PianoRemote and PiabookPlayer via iOS & Android compatible apps
- The Low Volume Balance feature balances piano tone when playing at low volumes
- Bluetooth audio
Alan Palmer, Kawai’s senior product specialist and development projects manager sums up the new CN models as, “Offering the touch, tone and advanced features traditionally found on much more expensive models.” He added, “With its more responsive actions and Shigeru Kawai concert grand samples, these models set a new standard for mid-level pianos.”

RHIII Action Enriches the Playing Experience
Both models have as standard features Kawai’s improved RHIII action. This gives the pianist the subtle let-off and counterbalancing touch associated with acoustic pianos. As well, the key-cushioning material has been enhanced to reduce keyboard noise, resulting in a softer, more natural and authentic feel. Both pianos are equipped with Kawai’s Ivory Touch key surfaces for an altogether richer overall playing experience.
Both models boast Kawai’s exclusive Grand Feel pedal system, which further elevates the playing experience by replicating the individual weighting of grand piano pedals.
Both new models include the Shigeru Kawai concert grand samples, characterized by a lavish dynamic concert grand piano sounds that rival any competing digital piano in a similar price range.
Kawai CN201 & CN301 Premium Upgrades
Another key feature is Low Volume Balance. This technology actively adjusts both keyboard touch and piano tone characteristics, permitting the playing of pianissimo passages in a natural and smooth fashion when running audio through speakers at low volumes.
The CN201 and CN301 digital pianos feature Bluetooth MIDI and Bluetooth audio. These allow for wireless connectivity both to external devices as well as audio streaming through the piano’s sound system.
For musicians using headphones, the CN201 and CN301 ship with Kawai’s exclusive Spatial Headphone Sound technology that enhances the sound depth and realism through all musical genres played.
Catering to newer students, both models include built-in lesson songs from Alfred, plus a selection of Czerny, Bergmuller and Beyer etudes.
Finally, both of these superb new pianos are equipped with a sliding key cover matched by a padded bench. Finishes available include premium rosewood, premium satin black or premium satin white.
Kawai is very excited to bring musicians the CN201 and CN301 digital pianos. They are emblematic of the high quality, performance and technology we strive to bring to all our products, and are designed and crafted to exceed pianists’ expectations, no matter what their level of play.
