Rancho Dominguez, CA – Kawai, one of the world’s largest and most respected builders of high-quality acoustic and digital pianos, has introduced a new line of grand pianos called the GL SERIES, the company’s first new line of entry-level to mid-level grand pianos in over 15 years. Kawai redesigned three existing product groups – the GM, GE and RX models – into one collection of instruments featuring its revolutionary Millennium III Grand Action and a powerful set of enhanced performance features that will ensure long-term musical enjoyment for the discerning pianist. The GL Series was introduced worldwide on September 2, 2015.

“We’ve had great success with our smaller GM and GE Series grand pianos and our affordable RX Series institutional models for many years,” said Kawai senior vice president Brian Chung. “But our company is always striving to improve – and we decided that our customers would be better served with a more focused line. So, we transformed those models into one well-ordered series of pianos possessing the essential qualities that have made our company famous – simple good looks, proven reliability and great performance. The GL Series could be summarized best with two words: Classic Kawai.”

There are five GL Series models – the 5’ GL-10, the 5’2” GL-20, the 5’5” GL-30, the 5’11” GL-40 and 6’2” GL-50. In addition to Kawai’s acclaimed Millennium III Action with carbon fiber, all GL models have tapered solid spruce soundboards, extended-length keys and key buttons, the SOLID system (that features a thicker stretcher bar for added strength), agraffes and a soft-fall closing system. Every element is designed to provide exceptional touch and tone over time.

“People can’t always see how one piano is different from another – or why one brand of instrument will perform better over time than another brand,” Chung said. “But when you look under the lid of a GL Series grand, you can see clear differences. The carbon fiber components in our Millennium III Action are stronger and more stable than conventional wood parts to provide more accurate touch and better tone over the long-term. Longer keys provide greater touch control and make playing easier. The extremely thick stretcher bar demonstrates the added strength we’ve built into the GL models to maintain stability of touch and tone. These kinds of enhancements are seldom found in other pianos, and certainly not on instruments as affordable as the GL Series Grand Pianos. Our goal was to make the GL Series better than any comparable line of pianos – and those who look closely will see that we’ve achieved it.”

Polished ebony editions of GL-20 through GL-50 models are now available through authorized Kawai dealers. The GL-10 in polished ebony will become available in October. Other finishes will be announced later in the fall of 2015.
